Getting impatient for impatiens!

Barbara Gardener is back:

Make sure you have plenty of impatiens for me to buy! I have a lot of garden space that only gets a few hours of sun. I also have good luck with begonias and primrose. Good border plants.

Barbara,

We will have PLENTY of impatiens for you to choose from.

I know impatiens is a "popular" choice for shady locations these days but there is a reason for that. It is practically unstoppable for the season and all the various colors show SO WELL through the season.

My favorite color is the Blush Pink and I am not afraid to admit it!

I love them and plant all colors. Had some pretty pink ones but didn't notice the name. The pine trees give them a lot of protection in the fall so they usually make it through the first frosts.

I sent you a picture of the blue groundcover last year to see if you knew what it was and along with Tim you also thought it was Forget-me-nots. When it is in full bloom you can't see the leaves. Just a sea of blue and from a distance looks exactly like them. I very definitely will bring some in!

More from Barbara Gardener:

"I didn't want to dispute Tim Bate in a blog that he might read but they definitely are not forget-me-nots. Everyone thinks that until they get close enough to really look at them. I have a 10' by 6' garden out back where I have blue, pink and white forget-me nots. They have a stem and skinny leaves (can't tell by the picture but that groundcover has short fat notched leaves) and their growth pattern is completely different. Color is the same but that's it. I have blue hyacinths planted in the forget-me-not garden also because forget-me-nots go by pretty early so I let a few go to seed for the next year, I have dwarf daylilies planted in there also. When they stop blooming I pin them down and buy your gazanias and plant them there. I don't want a big empty space. (Maybe just a nut?)

I know I bought the pink and blue ones from you 4 years ago. White ones? I don't know. Possibly a mutant?"
