Indoor Vegetable Gardening, Part 1, Getting Started!

Hello again,

Melissa M of Skillin's Falmouth will be teaching our Windowsill Gardening Class later this month (Feb 20 at 10 AM and 2 PM) at our Skillin's Falmouth location. She will be covering a wide variety of topics but one of the the areas she is really "jazzed about" is the area of growing indoor vegetables.

Around the 24th of January Melissa sowed some lettuce and other greens seeds and now 8 days later (per the photos) is getting some germination.

The indoor greenhouse shown in the picture is sold here at Skillin's along with all the other supplies. This project is going to turn out great!

Melissa will be talking about this project during the 2/20 class at Falmouth and also at our upcoming Spring Open Houses later in March!

From Melissa M:

"Thought I'd give you an update on how things are going with the mini greenhouse and indoor veggies.

The greenhouse works great - I have a grow light sitting on the top of the rack which is one 8 - 10 hours a day. The temp inside runs pretty consistently between 64 degrees and 68 after being open all day. This is in my cold apartment too! I turn my heater down to 60 degrees at night and the light of course is turned off. I am keeping a chart of all this data too. "

In the above picture you can see the pots of started lettuce as well as the peat pots too. We will keep you posted on Melissa's progress!
This is very exciting--and the purpose of the project is to show HOW ACHIEVABLE it is to grow vegetables indoors. Fresh vegetables!
